Yesterday we said our goodbyes to Barney.

Barney came to us as a surrender back in May, 15 years old he was deaf, had chronic arthritis, a heart condition, lesions in his spleen, and gallbladder disease. According to his owner, Barney was fine.

We did a dental to remove most of his teeth when he arrived. Ultrasounds of his heart, spleen and gallbladder – medication was dispensed to assist the conditions that were causing him pain and discomfort.

Barney was able to get around at home, he enjoyed his morning outing with Mum Margaret for coffee and to say hello to all and sundry.

The past couple of weeks Barney had been showing signs he wasn’t happy, a visit to the vets on Sunday for more pain relief and a new plan for him, to monitor and hope he’d improve.

But yesterday he was vomiting and told us he’d had enough, he was in pain and aside from putting him through more tests, it was decided between Mum Margaret, Dr Steve, and myself that it was Barney’s time to bid us farewell.

He passed peacefully and quickly, surrounded by those who loved and cared for him in the last few months of his life.

Run free Barney, you will be sadly missed 💙
