Bert is recovering after a longer than expected dental procedure.
We weren’t expecting as many extractions but once Dr Rachel was able to get a good view of Bert’s mouth he had multiple fractured teeth.
We knew Bert was stressed while he was in the shelter, and were aware one or two of his teeth were damaged from chewing on the metal gate of his pen. Coming in to care quite thin we needed Bert to gain some weight so as to make his anaesthetic a safer place for his little body.
Once he was under it was found 13 of Bert’s teeth were actually fractured, some broken off close to the gum line, making surgery a longer procedure.
But we’re happy to say Bert recovered like a trouper. He’s eating well and has had lots of comfy couch rests!
And his weight is almost where he should be, believe it or not Bert is one ball of fluff making him appear much bigger than he actually is.
He’ll continue to recover at home under the watchful eye of foster mum Robyn before he goes back for a vet check to ensure his mouth has healed properly 🩵
