All Bert ever wanted — all he truly needed — was a friend he could trust and love, a home he would never have to leave, and a family who simply understood him.

Every time we rehome a dog, we never know for certain if it’s the right place. We don’t know if they’ll settle, if they’ll feel safe, or if their journey will lead them back to us.

But we try. We try with everything we have. And it’s never as simple as people think. We’re meeting strangers for the first time — which is why we always do meet-and-greets in the adopter’s home — watching every interaction, with people and with other animals. We hope what we’re seeing is real. We hope we’ve chosen wisely. We hope we’ve done absolutely everything possible to give them the best chance.

And second time around we got it right.
We found Bert his place.

And updates like this are the proof we hold onto — that we did good. 💙
