Spartacus.

Even his name sounds strong. Brave. Unbreakable.

But when Spartacus entered the shelter in early August 2025, there was nothing strong about the little body that walked through those doors.

Inspectorate seized. Came in via council. No backstory. No explanation. Just a senior man whose bones told the truth for him.

He spent two days at the vet clinic on IV fluids because his body was running on empty. Body condition score: 0.5/5. Every rib visible. Every hip bone sharp. No fat. No reserves. Just survival.

He arrived with a heavy flea burden. Significant matting throughout his coat, shaved away in patches to relieve the pain. Hair loss beneath. Fragile skin. Paraphimosis corrected gently at the clinic — something no dog should have had to endure untreated.

Extremely emaciated. All bones visible. No fat present.

We don’t know where Spartacus lived before this.
We don’t know if he was ever walked kindly on a lead.
We don’t know if anyone ever showed him how to just… be a dog.

What we do know is that he learned survival lessons.

He learned that behaviours could make food appear. And when you’ve been that hungry, food becomes everything. So now, if he thinks food should come and it doesn’t, he can become mouthy. Not aggressive — just a dog who once had to fight for scraps and isn’t yet convinced the supply is secure.

He needs boundaries. Clear ones. Calm ones. The kind that make him feel safe rather than confused.

Yes, he can be lead reactive — which is why we are setting him up to succeed. Spartacus would be happiest with very little expectation to be walked. A quiet home. A secure yard. A gentle routine. The world doesn’t need to be big for him anymore.

He must be an only dog.
No kids.
Owner home the majority of the time.

And he needs someone strong — strong enough to hold boundaries (with love though). Someone consistent. Someone who won’t be manipulated by those big eyes when food is involved. Someone who understands that structure isn’t mean — it’s safety.

He sometimes struggles to find his way outside to wee when left alone — but when someone is present and guiding him, he does so much better. That tells us everything. He doesn’t want independence. He wants security.

Spartacus arrived into our care in October 2025. Since then, he has been waiting. Watching others leave.

This senior man doesn’t need perfection. He doesn’t need adventure. He doesn’t need long hikes or busy parks.

He needs:
• A calm, adult-only home
• To be the only pet
• Someone home most of the time
• Clear, loving boundaries
• Very low expectations around outings

In return, you’ll get a dog who leans into you. Who watches you with cautious hope. Who, despite everything he endured, still wants to belong.

Spartacus has fought enough battles.

Now he just needs his own person — the one who will say,
“You don’t have to survive anymore. You’re safe. And I’ve got you.”

Please share to help us find Spartacus the super special family he so desperately deserves. 🖤
