When a dog sleeps on their back, belly exposed, it’s a sign of complete trust — a moment of vulnerability where they feel utterly safe.
So when a little soul like Sassy, who has come from a life where she had nothing, begins to show even the smallest glimpses of that trust, it truly is something special. Something beautiful.
Sassy still has a way to go. Her nervousness is very much there — and that’s okay. It’s early days. She’s learning, slowly but surely, that this new world is safe, that she can move freely, without fear, without restriction.
Yesterday, Sassy visited Dr Andrew for a check-up. It’s important to remember that dogs like Sassy have never worn a harness or lead before — even the process of putting one on was overwhelming for her. So her wonderful foster mum, Giulia, gently wrapped her in a soft blanket and carried her into the clinic, making her feel as secure as possible.
Medically, Sassy did well. She does have quite a nasty ear infection — it’s incredible how much debris was hiding in those tiny ears once they were cleaned. She’s now on medication, and will head back next week for a recheck.
Every small step forward is a big win for Sassy 💛
