Every dog deserves a place to call home, and Toto is still searching for his.
After 21 months, Toto has found himself back in our care.
Of course we’re disappointed. We always hope every adoption is forever. But dwelling on the “why” doesn’t change what’s in front of us. What matters now is helping Toto find the family he truly deserves.
So today isn’t about looking backwards, it’s about giving Toto another chance.
At just 3½ years old, this sweet little guy has already had more upheaval than any dog should. He entered the shelter in June 2024, came into Sweet Paws where he recovered from patella surgery and spent over three months in foster care, before moving on to what we hoped would be his forever home.
Now, his journey begins again.
Toto is looking for a family who understands that being a little shy doesn’t mean something is “wrong” with him. A family who will guide him with patience, kindness and consistency. A family who won’t see his little chats and barks as flaws, but simply as part of who he is. A family who will help him feel safe enough to truly settle.
Because underneath it all is an incredibly loving little dog.

🚗 He adores car rides.
🐾 He walks beautifully on lead.
🩺 He’s an absolute superstar at the vet.
🐶 Once he gets to know other dogs, he loves to play.
🛏️ At bedtime he’s happy on your bed or in his own.
🍗 He can be a bit of a fussy eater—but we all have our quirks!
Toto can be anxious when unfamiliar people enter the home, so he’ll need a family willing to help him build confidence at his own pace. He’s not suited to apartment living, where his vocal nature could become stressful for both him and the neighbours.
What Toto needs most isn’t perfection.
He needs commitment.
He needs understanding.
He needs someone who will say, “You’re home now,” and mean it.
