💙 Welcome to Sweet Paws, Smurf 💙
Yesterday we welcomed the adorable Smurf into the Sweet Paws Dog Rescue family.
At 14½ years young, this little Maltese x Shih Tzu has found himself back in rescue after an incredibly sad change in circumstances. Smurf was originally adopted from the shelter back in 2018 and enjoyed many happy years with his owner. Sadly, after his owner suffered a stroke and moved into residential care, there was no one left to care for him.
It’s a heartbreaking reminder that sometimes dogs don’t lose their homes because they aren’t loved. In fact, it’s often quite the opposite.
Smurf had been living a quiet, cosy life with another little dog, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Now he’s adjusting to yet another big change, but we’ll make sure his golden years are filled with comfort, kindness and love.
Like many senior dogs, Smurf has a few medical issues that we’re helping him through. He recently underwent a dental, where most of his teeth were removed, has started Pentosan injections to help his arthritis, and is being treated for a severe corneal ulcer that will require ongoing medication and regular veterinary check-ups. He’s also just recovering from kennel cough and is finishing a course of antibiotics.
Despite everything he’s been through, Smurf has been an absolute sweetheart, and we’re looking forward to seeing his personality shine as he settles into foster care.
Welcome to Sweet Paws, little man. Your next chapter is going to be a good one 🩵
