Well… I almost missed Father’s Day!
Better late than never, right?
Happy (almost belated) Father’s Day to all the dads out there — human dads, dog dads, foster dads and all the dads who somehow ended up with a house full of animals they never actually agreed to!
A very special thank you to all our foster dads who never quite know who is going to walk through the door next.
Thank you for loving them, caring for them and accepting that sometimes they will choose to poop inside, despite the back door being wide open.
For giving up your side of the bed… then the middle… and eventually accepting that the bed is no longer yours at all. Because apparently the dog got there first, so legally it belongs to them now!
For the sleepless nights, the early mornings, the muddy paws, the extra washing and all the little things that come with fostering.
And for adoption days, when you smile and say how happy you are for them, while we secretly know your heart is breaking a little as they leave…..
And then there’s my other half!
We started this crazy dog journey 13 years ago, and you never complained when you walked through the door from work and casually asked:
“Who’s that?”
…while I casually replied:
“Oh, they’ll only be here for a few weeks.”
🤥😂
Somehow, those few weeks turned into forever more times than either of us care to count.
Thank you for being there every single time — far more times than any normal pet owner should have to be — as we held our little ones and said our goodbyes.
Thank you for never saying “NO” when another broken, frightened, elderly, difficult, tiny, bitey or just plain needy dog somehow found their way through our front door.
For sacrificing your own dreams and your own space to care for so many dogs who needed someone to give them a chance.
Even the little ones who bit you every single day 😂
And somehow… you still never turned them away.
I’m sorry I didn’t step away when I promised I would.
But you know… what can I say?
Starting Sweet Paws just seemed like a good idea that day.
And here we are.
Still rescuing.
Still fostering.
Still saying “just one more.”
And, most importantly…
Still with absolutely NO room on the bed 🤣
Because underneath all the eye-rolling, the sighs and the “where exactly am I supposed to sleep?”…
we all know our dog dads love these little ones just as much as we do.
Well… sort of.
Happy Father’s Day, dads.
You’re pretty bloody special ♥️
