Are we there yet Mum?!
Archie is loving his daily outings to the park and the beach, we think he loves his foster mum just a teeny bit more though…..
Archie is a 5 and a bit year old chihuahua, surrendered to the Lost Dogs Home, this tiny little boy was as you can imagine completely and utterly terrified.
He likes to show his pearly whites often, or he did – but since being in foster care with his Mum and Dad, Archie is starting to learn how to be less prone to showing his teeth and on the command of “no teeth”, he will nicely stop.
Archie still has a way to go with his training, but he has come on in leaps and bounds in a couple of weeks, he’s now comfortable being picked up and is friendly with the other dogs at home.
His vet assessment last week (under a light sedation) meant he was able to have his rather long nails clipped, a grade 4 heart murmur was found which led us to making an appointment with cardiologist Dr Richard Woolley next week.
Once we know more a decision has been made (if all goes well in regards to his heart) to find Archie a home. The less time he spends moving from place to place, and the quicker we can place Archie with a family (no kids) who are chihuahua savvy, and willing to show this little man that it’s possible to trust again, then we feel this will be the best possible for Archie.
We’ll obviously be doing thorough screening, probably more so, as Archie is one of those cases where he’s not just a tiny dog who is happy to fit in – he has some trauma that obviously has led to him being very fearful and with that the only way of Archie protecting himself is by baring his teeth.
He is super loving when he does trust you, all he needs is someone who understands that he needs time, love and patience, in abundance
