🩺 Sophia’s Vet Update – 27 June 2025 💕

Sophia underwent further investigation on Friday due to concerns around possible Cushing’s disease (hyperadrenocorticism). While this condition can be difficult to definitively diagnose, several findings are supportive of it.

✅ Procedures Performed:
• Physical Exam:
• Urinalysis: Urine was unexpectedly concentrated (unusual for Cushing’s).
• Abdominal Ultrasound (under sedation):
• Spleen: A 4.5 x 2.5 cm mass found. Could be benign or malignant. Fine needle aspirate (FNA) performed and sent to lab.
• Liver: Patchy appearance; could be due to Cushing’s or other liver diseases. FNA also performed for lab analysis.
• Adrenal Glands: Both mildly enlarged (0.65 cm), suggestive of pituitary-dependent Cushing’s but could also be due to stress or chronic illness.

🩺 Diagnosis (Pending Confirmation):

Possible Pituitary-Dependent Hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing’s Disease)
Supported by:
• Previous bloodwork (elevated ALP)
• Abnormal ACTH stimulation test
• Bilateral adrenal gland enlargement
• Possible liver changes (awaiting cytology)

Not strongly supportive:
• Concentrated urine
• No clear signs of increased thirst, urination, or appetite

📋 Next Steps:
• Await spleen and liver test results (due Monday).
• If results rule out other conditions, diagnosis of Cushing’s will be likely.
• Treatment decisions will depend on:
• Severity of symptoms
• Blood pressure results
• Signs of kidney damage (protein in urine)

🔁 Recheck in 2–4 Weeks:
• Blood pressure check
• Repeat urine test (can be collected at home)
