Candy spent all of her 16 years living outside, with a broken, dilapidated kennel as her only form of shelter.
When her owner passed away, Candy found herself surrendered and arriving at our doorstep — and from that moment on, we promised her that the rest of her life would look nothing like the years she’d endured.
We took care of everything she had been denied.
She was desexed.
Her rotten, painful teeth were removed.
Her mammary tumours were surgically taken away.
And then she rested — safe, warm, and deeply loved — in her foster home while she healed, until the day came when it was time to find Candy the very special human she deserved.
We are completely and utterly grateful to Mya, who opened her heart and her home and made Candy a part of her family. Candy is clearly in her twilight years, and when someone looks past that — when they choose love knowing time may be short — it is one of the most beautiful and selfless gifts a person can give. To offer a senior dog a gentle, dignified, end-of-life journey is a kindness that will never be forgotten.
Our gratitude doesn’t stop there. We are endlessly thankful for the foster carers who do the hard yards behind the scenes, the vet appointments, the post-op care, the grooming visits — and most importantly, the loving of dogs who are finally given a second chance at the life they were always meant to have.
Carolynne and Tristan gave Candy all of that and more. They walked beside her through recovery, wrapped her in love, and then made the longest of drives to meet Candy’s new family. That journey alone speaks volumes, it’s the kind of dedication that tells you, without question, that this is the home their foster dog truly deserves.
“Thank you” never feels like enough, but it’s all we have, and we hope they know just how deeply grateful we are for everything they do.
The updates on Candy have been nothing short of beautiful. She’s now a country girl, living a quiet, peaceful retirement surrounded by love.
And home — finally — is exactly where she is 🤍
