And… here’s Ollie!!

Welcome to your new chapter, sweet boy. We are so excited to have you join the Sweet Paws family.

For those who read yesterday’s post about Billy, Ollie’s brother, you’ll already know where these two boys have come from. At 4½ years old, they were surrendered after living a very isolated life. They had never left their property, had never been to a vet, weren’t desexed, weren’t vaccinated, and had very little social interaction with people or the outside world.

Ollie’s notes painted a worrying picture. He was described as the more difficult of the two brothers, with growling during handling, possessive behaviours, and even redirecting onto Billy when stressed. Medication was started to help him cope with the world around him.

But those notes don’t define Ollie.

His past is exactly that, his past. At Sweet Paws, we look forward, not backwards. Every dog deserves the opportunity to show us who they really are when they finally feel safe, loved and understood.

And wow, has Ollie surprised everyone.

His amazing foster mum, Jo, says he is inquisitive, confident, funny and settling beautifully into family life. On his first evening he was still recovering from his desexing surgery and, like many dogs, wasn’t a fan of wearing the dreaded cone. The occasional little growl seemed more related to his discomfort and frustration than his personality, as it disappeared whenever the cone came off.

He was a little unsure about dinner at first, happily accepting hand-fed meals before quickly working out that eating from his bowl was pretty great too! He’s discovered cuddles, back scratches and gentle tickles, follows Jo’s very tall grandson around the house, and has claimed a comfy bed in the bedroom where he settled in for a peaceful night’s sleep.

By day two, Ollie was already showing everyone just how much he had relaxed. He’s happily accepted being picked up, loves affection, and has been enjoying playful chase games with Meg. Living alongside other dogs has done wonders for his confidence, and it’s becoming clear that the little dog described in his surrender notes is not the dog we’re getting to know.

From a backyard with little exposure to the world, to living as a cherished member of a family, the transformation in just a couple of days has been incredible to watch.

This is why we never judge a dog by the worst chapter of their story.

We cannot wait to watch Ollie continue to blossom. We have a feeling this gorgeous little man won’t be waiting too long before he finds the forever family he has always deserved.

A huge thank you to Jo for opening her heart and home to Ollie and giving him the chance to discover just how wonderful life can be ♥️
