An update on our beautiful Chester 🩵
It’s been a worrying week for our sweet boy.
On Sunday night, Chester took a turn for the worse and needed a trip to the emergency clinic. After being assessed, he was referred back to our vet for further investigations.
Chester had already been booked in this Friday for a liver ultrasound and a TSH blood test to determine whether he has hypothyroidism. However, due to his rapid decline, our veterinary team arranged for him to be seen urgently yesterday so we could get answers as quickly as possible.
His blood work showed elevated liver enzymes, which is why the liver ultrasound was performed. The imaging has revealed some significant changes to his internal organs, and those images have now been sent to a medicine specialist for further assessment.
On Sunday and Monday, Chester was extremely flat and unwell. In fact, he was so quiet that he didn’t even require sedation for his ultrasound.
We already know Chester has multiple medical conditions that we’re working through with our vets, and we’re hopeful we’ll have more information today once the remaining blood test results are back.
We’re really hoping the cause is hypothyroidism. If that’s the case, it’s a condition that can often be managed with a simple daily tablet, and many dogs respond remarkably quickly to treatment.
If the results show something more complex, we’ll work closely with our veterinary team to explore every appropriate treatment option. Chester deserves every chance at a happy, comfortable life after being denied the care he needed for so many years.
As always, we never ask, but with several of our rescue dogs currently needing ongoing veterinary care, any donation—big or small—helps us continue saying “yes” to dogs like Chester.
